summer pleasures.

Daisy nodding in the summer wind
The sky stretches like a smile
As I am buoyed along with the wind
I develop a sense of reality
And find that reality
Is more sacred than dreams
And more full of possibilities.

Should I extend my hand to the past
Or look to the future?
I waver, feeling uncertain,
And uncertainly I pass along through
The green hills to a cool brook
Which reminds me of a place I used to go as a child
Within the pages of a book
The sheep of his pasture,
And the flock under his care.

I see a lonely church on a hill
But know better than to go inside
I have heard a thousand voices
Proclaiming in my dreams, and I know my voice will fail
And I wont hear myself think
If I go inside.

I turn on to the lee of the hill
The wind still at my back
To wait for a day which promises much
Within the confines of routine.
Adventure stirs me to explore
As I explored old bleachers
And dusty roads
And closed-up carnival boxes
And an acrid arena.

Alive is a word Ive understood less
The older Ive gotten
As Ive discovered life is fraught with difficulties.
No solution is easy
Not one that works
A soul is a thing buoyed up by the wind
And, thank God, cannot be bought and sold.
